The Kano State Executive Council has approved over ₦20.3 billion for the execution of critical infrastructure and public service projects across the state, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to inclusive development and responsive governance.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presided over the second Special Executive Council Meeting held on Thursday.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, announced that the Council approved a total of ₦20,364,289,709.89 for various high-impact projects.

Among the major decisions was the revocation and re-award of contracts for the completion of several long-abandoned 5-kilometre dual carriageway projects.

These include roads in Bebeji, Tudun Wada, Garun Mallam, Madobi, and Tsanyawa local government areas. The contract for Bebeji was re-awarded at ₦3.23 billion, Tudun Wada at ₦4.60 billion, Garun Mallam at ₦4.04 billion, Madobi at ₦4.10 billion, and Tsanyawa at ₦3.42 billion.

In honour of the late former Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi, the Council approved the construction of an auditorium at the NLC Headquarters on Katsina Road at a cost of ₦284.55 million.

The facility, to be named after the late governor, commemorates his legacy as the first to initiate the celebration of Workers’ Day on May 1st in Nigeria.

The Council also approved the reconstruction of a burnt mosque and an Islamiyya school building in Tiga Gadan, Gezawa Local Government Area.

This includes the addition of a motorised solar-powered borehole with an overhead tank, a six-seater toilet facility, and an office block—all at the total cost of ₦151.86 million. In addition, general renovation of all offices within the Cabinet Office was approved at ₦517.35 million.

In a compassionate response to recent natural disasters, the Council expressed deep sympathy for victims of rainstorms and windstorms that affected communities in Gani, Masu, and Sitti wards in Sumaila Local Government Area, as well as Doguwa and other affected parts of the state. Consequently, it approved the constitution of a committee, chaired by the Commissioner of Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, to assess the damage and recommend appropriate action.

Further deliberations included the deteriorating condition of the Zawaciki abattoir, a project originally initiated by former Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

The Council condemned the reported vandalisation of the facility under the previous administration and approved the formation of a high-powered committee to investigate the issue and provide recommendations.

It also considered the construction of a modern abattoir as part of a broader plan to generate employment and stimulate economic activities in the state.

Waiya reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to deliver on its promises, stating that the Kano State Government remains committed to transparent, accountable, and impactful governance.
