My work in entertainment is underrated – Denrele Edun

Popular Nigerian media personality Denrele Edun has expressed frustration over the lack of recognition for his decades-long contribution to the entertainment industry, despite being a pioneer in several aspects of showbiz.

Speaking in an interview with Sunday Scoop, Denrele stated that his extensive body of work—particularly his role in revolutionizing Nigeria’s red carpet culture—has been largely overlooked.

“I started out in 1994 and I single-handedly revolutionised the red-carpet culture in Nigeria. No one really paid attention to the red carpet until I turned it into an event on its own. These days, people come just for the red carpet and barely care about the main event,” he said.

Known for his flamboyant style and energetic interviews, Denrele recalled his time with a major music channel, where even government officials and top politicians would attend events just to be engaged by him.

“I had a way of making people feel good about themselves. I am a body language expert, and over the years, I’ve worked with many brands to transform the red carpet into a unique experience. When you meet me, you don’t just get a conversation; you get an experience,” he added.

Reflecting on his legacy, Denrele described himself as both a “trendsetter” and “culture shaper,” but lamented that his efforts have not been valued accordingly.

“My portfolio of work is the most undervalued and underappreciated in the industry,” he declared.
