Why I don’t consider myself an icon – Janet Jackson

American singer and songwriter, Janet Jackson, has revealed that she does not consider herself to be a musical icon.

Janet said this at the AMA event on Monday night where she stated that she never wanted to be famous.

The multi award winning singer and actress was awarded the icon award at the event.

Janet explained that her family’s love for music is what drove them to invest in it. She also stated that the fame came as a result of hard work and dedication to their craft.

“I don’t consider myself to be an icon. My family, myself- our dreams were never to be famous. We weren’t raised like that. We always had special love for music, dancing and singing. Fame came with the result of hard work and dedication,” she said.

The Jackson family is popular for creating the famous Jackson 5 group. Although the group eventually split up, they all had successful solo careers.
