Why I’m Africa’s most-followed artiste – Davido explains

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shed light on what sets him apart in the digital space, revealing why he holds the title of the most-followed African artiste across social media platforms.

Speaking in a recent interview with BET Talks, the award-winning singer attributed his massive online following to his openness, authenticity, and consistent fan engagement.

“I’m the most-followed African artiste across social media because I’m free with my fans,” Davido stated. “In the beginning of my career, I was very open. I used to do vlogs, showing people my life. A lot of Nigerian and African artists are always scared to show their real selves.”

Davido noted that his exposure to life in America broadened his perspective and influenced his casual and relatable online presence.

“I think living in America helped me a lot, too, because my mind is kind of open a little bit. I’m not saying my people are ignorant… but some artistes over-think and overdo,” he explained.

The “With You” crooner stressed that while he enjoys the glitz and glamour when necessary, he also embraces his everyday self, often posting pictures in shorts and slippers from his home.

“Just go with the flow,” he advised fellow artistes. “I feel like that’s how it should be.”
