A fresh take on the classic hymn “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus,” No Turning Back II combines uplifting lyrics with infectious beats, fueling its popularity, especially on TikTok where it has gone viral.
This marks the second major gospel hit of 2025 after Lawrence Iyor’s Favour dominated early in the year, signaling a resurgence of gospel music’s commercial success in Nigeria. The rise comes after years of reduced visibility due to the growing dominance of pop artistes on streaming platforms.
TikTok is now playing a key role in popularizing gospel music among Nigeria’s youth, driving a significant increase in gospel streams. Between 2022 and 2024, Gen Z gospel streams on Spotify grew by an astounding 1,228%, while Christian podcast streams rose by 482%.
The trend is reflected in the achievements of gospel artistes like Sumisola Agbebi, who became the first gospel artist to surpass 1 million monthly Spotify listeners, as well as Moses Bliss and Mercy Chinwo, who ranked among the most-streamed Nigerian artists on YouTube in early 2025.
