Oh Mama: Maryann Serves Gratitude on a Platter
Quick Read
In the artwork for Maryann’s new song, an artificial intelligence image of a woman adorns it. She is solemn and in deep thought, with her eyes half closing as if she is praying for a good time for her children. That’s just the power of mothers all around the world. They are all out to make things easier for their offspring, no wonder, there is always perennial Mother’s Day celebration all around the world.

Maryann, the Nigerian born artiste has just added a song to the enlarging compilation playlist for mother with her May 29, 2025 release.
The intro of the song shares calm similarity with Brymo’s Alajo Somolu (released in 2016). The mid-tempo range of this song makes the message easily perceivable by the listeners, lyrically, words get repeated, perhaps for emphasis’s sake with the instrumental doing a yeoman job.
Maryann seems to get better as she releases more songs, the lyrics in this song can’t be counted with finger in hand yet this detail is so easy to ignore due to the clarity in her word usage, the quantum use of emotions as she voices her gratitude to her mother.
Helmed with aguitar strings, “Oh Mama,” is a gratitude centric song, it just a way of appreciating the mother, with the singer listing out some of the things her mother or any mother around the world would have done or did.
In the first verse, she starts off with “every night I close my eyes, I see your face,” followed by the artiste admitting her mother has been an anchor for her as she navigates the murky waters of life.
The second verse on the song is more about what she has been able to do with the message being passed to her to her mother, with the third verse serving as a listicle as she lists out most of the things done for her; for every prayer, every guide etc.
“Oh Mama,” optimally makes use of the exquisite production by the beat maker, when the drums drop in the five second mark on this song, you surely know that you are in for a good time, it is that beautiful. The back up singer almost took over the song, Maryann quickly restored order.
Maryann might just be the next superstar singer, vocalists next to come from Nigeria, with the right team, discipline and consistency, she will definitely make her mark.
