“I was preaching here that Saturday, and the devil took advantage of my absence,” he said. “My wife had been at home with a health challenge. As I was leaving for the Faith Clinic, I failed to close the spiritual door. While I was ministering, I received the message that my beloved wife had passed away.”
General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has opened up about the painful loss of his first wife, Biodun, describing it as a moment the devil exploited during his absence.
Speaking on Thursday during the Global Workers’ Conference at the Deeper Life International Conference Centre, Kumuyi recalled that the tragedy struck while he was ministering at a church retreat on Saturday, April 11, 2009.
“I was preaching here that Saturday, and the devil took advantage of my absence,” he said. “My wife had been at home with a health challenge. As I was leaving for the Faith Clinic, I failed to close the spiritual door. While I was ministering, I received the message that my beloved wife had passed away.”
He added that he rushed home to the International Bible Training Centre (IBTC), where the news was confirmed. “I met some brethren praying. The Lord told me, ‘Let it go, don’t dwell on it.’”
Kumuyi described the loss as a painful chapter in his life but stressed that it marked a turning point.
He vowed never to allow such tragedy to repeat itself in his life, home, or ministry.
“From that day, I said to myself, ‘That one happened, but it will never happen again.’ To counter the devil, I intensified my ministry. I have travelled across nearly all the local governments in Nigeria, visited almost every African nation, and ministered on all continents. Since then, blind eyes have seen, deaf ears have heard, the lame have walked—and now, even the dead have been raised,” he declared.
Encouraging his audience, Kumuyi affirmed that the past should be left behind.
“Those who are gone are gone—like water under the bridge. From now on, in your family and wherever you go, you will be in charge. Nothing will be allowed to steal from you again,” he concluded.
