Famous Nigerian music video director, ThankGod Omori Jesam, popularly known as TG Omori, has opened up about the financial struggles he faced in his journey as a cinematographer.
During an interactive session with fans on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Omori revealed that despite being one of the most sought-after directors in Nigeria for years, he only began making profits from music video production in 2023.
Responding to a fan’s question on pricing and budgeting for video shoots, TG Omori said,
“I only started making profits in 2023. Every time I’m losing money from pick-up shoots or something! Budget is never enough. In fact, I was in bad production debt for five years. Just had to live with it — I was paying up and taking more to cover up.”
He added that it was the income generated from his brand and public personality that eventually helped him offset the production debt.
“I was only able to pay it off through money my brand and personality was fetching me. It’s a tough life for creatives. Hug a creative beside you today,” he said.
The disclosure has sparked widespread admiration from fans and colleagues, noting the often-unseen struggles behind the glitz and glam of the entertainment industry.
Recall that in 2023, music superstar Davido revealed during an interview with Beats FM Lagos that he paid TG Omori a staggering N100 million to direct the video for his hit single Jowo. Omori later confirmed the claim via a social media post.
