Cristiano Ronaldo once again proved decisive on the international stage, firing Portugal into the UEFA Nations League final with a thrilling 2-1 comeback win over Germany on Wednesday night.

Despite an early onslaught from Germany, including multiple close-range efforts from Leon Goretzka and Nick Woltemade, Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa stood tall with a series of outstanding saves to keep the match level.

Germany eventually broke the deadlock in the 48th minute through Florian Wirtz, who headed home a Joshua Kimmich cross from close range. Although the goal was subject to a VAR review for a potential offside in the build-up, it was ultimately allowed to stand.

But Portugal, unfazed by the deficit, responded with flair. In the 63rd minute, Francisco Conceição produced a stunning long-range strike that arrowed into the bottom-left corner to draw the Seleção level.

Just five minutes later, Nuno Mendes picked out Ronaldo with a precise ball into the box.

Germany came close to equalising, with Karim Adeyemi striking the post and ter Stegen making a series of superb late saves to deny Diogo Jota and Conceição in the dying moments.

But Portugal held firm to secure a place in the final, where they will aim to clinch their second Nations League title.

Ronaldo’s winner not only underlined his enduring brilliance but also propelled Portugal one step closer to continental silverware.
