Nigerian singer Davido has come to the defense of his family following a controversial statement by APC chieftain Hon. Timothy Owoeye, who declared that the ruling party’s ticket is not for sale to the Adeleke family.
The controversy arose after Davido, his father Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, and his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu earlier this week.
Shortly after, Hon. Owoeye, the immediate past Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, publicly stated that the Adeleke family is not welcome in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
At a press conference held in Osogbo on Wednesday, June 4, Owoeye categorically said, “APC ticket is not for sale for the Adeleke family.” He added, “As a matter of fact, as of today, we don’t see Governor Ademola Adeleke as part of the APC.”
Owoeye also insisted that the APC remains the dominant party in Osun State, asserting that fears within the Adeleke family and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are behind their alleged interest in joining the APC.
He said, “The APC in Osun State remains the party to beat. If not because of the fear of unknown disturbing the Adeleke’s and PDP, they won’t show the intention of coming to the APC.”
Owoeye further criticized the PDP’s tenure, stating, “If not for brigandage after the 2022 governorship and 2023 general elections, PDP will not have their way in Osun State. The tenure of PDP is already terminated in Osun State. Come August 8, 2026, we will chase them away. There is no space for PDP and Adeleke in the APC.”
Reacting to the viral video of Owoeye’s speech, Davido mocked the APC chieftain on social media, writing, “No be this guy naked for bush?” His cousin Bred also responded with laughing emojis, showing support for Davido’s dismissive stance.
