Kano: Police arraign 29 suspected killers of DPO

The Kano State Police Command has arraigned 29 suspects for allegedly killing the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Rano division, CSP Baba Ali, and related offences.

The suspects are also accused of damaging police property.

Our Correspondent reports that a bloody protest over the death of a suspect in police custody, led to the gruesome killing of the DPO and destruction of police property by irate mob.

Following a thorough investigation, the police arraigned a total of 29 suspects before Magistrate Court Number 20, Nomansland, Kano, in connection with the incident.

Fourteen prime suspects were charged for the culpable homicide and related offences, including: criminal conspiracy; inciting disturbance; mischief by fire; criminal trespass; ausing grievous hurt and theft.

The suspects charged in connection with the DPO’s killing are: Bala Yusuf, Bala Mohammed, Abdulrashid Ibrahim, Abdullahi Salisu Kere, Sadiq Buhari, Yunusa Adamu, Musa Minkaila
8. Mamuda Mohammer, Ismail Mamuda, Usman Shu’aibu, Musa Hassan Black, Abdulrashid Munkail, Umar Ado Nadada, and Sabitu Abubakar, all of Rano Local Goverbment Area, Kano State.

Additionally, 15 other suspects were charged with offences relating to the incident, including: criminal conspiracy, nciting disturbance, and mischief.

The Kano State Police Command therefore, assured the public that justice will be pursued in the case, and expressed its appreciations for the condolences, prayers, support, understanding, and cooperation of the public in the investigation.

According to a Statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, “in light of this incident, the Command urges the public to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

“It reiterates its commitment to maintaining law and order, and ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in the State.”
