The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command, has stepped up enforcement against the use of fake number plates and non-use of Speed Limiting Devices, alongside a crackdown on vehicle overloading across the state.

Sector Commander C.C. Joyce Alexander disclosed this during a briefing with journalists in Awka on Friday, emphasizing that these operations aim to reduce road traffic crashes and enhance security.

Alexander highlighted the importance of regulating number plates, noting that vehicle registration details are linked to personal information such as the owner’s phone number, address, and name, which are crucial for tracking criminals, especially in land transportation-related crimes.

She revealed that 38 offenders were arraigned for various traffic violations, with 36 convicted and two discharged.

“This effort is especially vital in Anambra, where the governor has implemented measures to combat insecurity,” she said.

Ahead of the Eid Eld-Kabir celebrations, the FRSC Anambra Command assured readiness to respond swiftly to road traffic emergencies. The public was urged to cooperate by reporting crashes and obstructions via the FRSC’s 24-hour toll-free emergency lines.

“The collaboration of the public is invaluable in our quest to reduce road crashes and create safer transport conditions,” Alexander added.
