Despite their escape, they made away with various valuables, including eight high-end mobile phones, two laptops, jewellery, and ₦54,000 in cash.

The Ogun State Security Network, code-named Amotekun, thwarted a robbery attempt in the early hours of Saturday, following a swift response to a distress call from residents of Akinale Town in Ewekoro Local Government Area.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m., left a 28-year-old man, Opeyemi Olusanya, with a gunshot wound to the upper part of his left limb.

Responding rapidly, operatives of the Amotekun Corps, Ewekoro Command, arrived at the scene to confront the armed suspects, who were in the process of fleeing in a wine-coloured Kia Cerato with registration number KRD 840 JS—identified as belonging to one Ariwoola Abiola Wasiu of Ifesowapo Estate, Adunbu, Itori.

Upon sighting the Amotekun operatives, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and escaped into a nearby bush.

Despite their escape, they made away with various valuables, including eight high-end mobile phones, two laptops, jewellery, and ₦54,000 in cash.

The abandoned getaway vehicle has since been handed over to the Nigeria Police, Itori Division, which is now working in collaboration with Amotekun to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and track down the fleeing suspects.

The injured victim, Olusanya, was found in a pool of blood and has been rushed to a private hospital in Obada-Oko for urgent medical treatment.

Community members have commended the Amotekun Corps for their timely intervention and unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives and property.

Many residents described the swift response as a testament to the Corps’ growing reliability and importance in ensuring security across Ogun State.
