EPL: Tottenham eye Brentford’s Thomas Frank after sacking Postecoglou

By Femi Fabunmi

English Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur are expected to name a new head coach next week following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou, with Brentford boss Thomas Frank emerging as the leading candidate for the coaching role at the club.

Postecoglou was dismissed on Fruday after a turbulent end to the season and internal disagreements with the club’s board over transfer policy and long-term direction.

His exit marks the end of a brief tenure that began with promise but ultimately failed to deliver the consistency or progress expected by the Spurs hierarchy.

Although he tutored the team to win Europa League title thus qualifying them for the UEFA Champions League,  the club didn’t seem it fit to continue with him beyond two seasons.

In the aftermath of Postecoglou’s dismissal, Tottenham are now turning their attention to Thomas Frank, who has impressed during his time at Brentford.

The Danish coach is admired within Premier League circles for his tactical intelligence, calm leadership, and ability to achieve solid results with limited resources.

Although no formal contact has been made between Tottenham and Brentford as of Friday, club insiders confirm that Frank is currently the top name under consideration.

Discussions within the Spurs camp are ongoing, and a final decision is expected to be reached in the coming days.

Frank took over at Brentford in 2018 and led the club to its first-ever Premier League promotion in 2021.

Since then, he has kept the Bees competitive in the top flight, earning a reputation for building a well-organised and resilient side capable of troubling even the league’s top teams.

The move would represent a significant step up for the 50-year-old Dane, who has previously been linked with other top-tier jobs but has remained loyal to Brentford.

Any approach from Tottenham is likely to involve a formal negotiation with Brentford’s management, who will be reluctant to lose their highly-rated manager.

Tottenham’s leadership is keen to make a swift appointment to allow the new coach adequate time to prepare for the upcoming season.

With pre-season training set to begin soon, the urgency around the decision continues to build.

If appointed, Frank would become Tottenham’s fourth permanent manager in three years, as the club continues its search for stability and a return to the top form.
