The 22-year-old Spaniard saved three championship points and battled for five hours and 29 minutes before claiming victory with a scoreline of 4-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-2).
The match, played on the iconic Court Philippe-Chatrier, was the first Grand Slam final between two players born in the 2000s.
It lived up to all expectations, with breathtaking rallies, powerful shots, and dramatic twists. Sinner looked to be in control after taking the first two sets and was on the verge of a third consecutive Grand Slam title. But Alcaraz, known for his never-give-up spirit, refused to surrender.
With the crowd on his side, Alcaraz found another gear, clawing back into the match and forcing a deciding fifth set.
Even when facing defeat, he saved three match points with incredible courage. In the final set tiebreak, Alcaraz dominated, showing nerves of steel and sealing the win with a spectacular forehand.
This victory marks Alcaraz’s fifth Grand Slam title, matching the total Rafael Nadal had at the same age. The trophy was handed to him by 1999 champion Andre Agassi.
In his speech, Alcaraz praised Sinner’s performance and thanked his supporters from Murcia and the Paris crowd for their love throughout the tournament.
Sinner, visibly emotional, accepted defeat with grace, calling it a privilege to play in such a match. He had been on a 20-match winning streak in Grand Slams and had looked unbeatable throughout the tournament, but Alcaraz found a way.
Former players and experts hailed the match as one of the best ever, with Tim Henman calling it a classic and John McEnroe suggesting that both players could rival legends like Nadal at their peak.
The level of tennis was so high that many believe it has set a new standard for the sport.
With Alcaraz and Sinner now having won the last six major titles between them, a new golden era of tennis seems firmly underway.
