Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has firmly dispelled rumours of a rift between him and President Bola Tinubu, following a viral moment that sparked speculation of tension.

During the unveiling of the first phase of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, social media was abuzz with claims that Tinubu deliberately snubbed Sanwo-Olu by skipping a handshake with him while greeting other governors and dignitaries.

The moment, caught on video, quickly fuelled reports of an alleged fallout between the two prominent figures.

However, speaking on Sunday after leading top All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains on a Sallah visit to President Tinubu in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu addressed the issue directly and lightheartedly.

“Did you see any discord? Can’t you see you are smiling and I am smiling?” Sanwo-Olu asked reporters.

“There is no discord. You know, there are people that believe they are more Catholic than the Pope, people who cry more than the bereaved.”

Describing Tinubu as both a mentor and a father figure, the governor emphasised that their relationship remains solid and respectful.

“There is nothing at all. He is my father, he is my leader,” Sanwo-Olu declared.

“We are grateful for the audience given to us today to celebrate Sallah with him,” he added.

The governor’s remarks appear to put to rest the rumours of any strain in his relationship with the president, who was instrumental in his political rise.
