In a swift response to the devastating floods that struck Mokwa, the Niger State Government has awarded a ₦7 billion contract for the construction of a 12-kilometre road linking Mokwa to Rabba, complete with four new bridges.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago made the announcement during an on-the-spot assessment and condolence visit to communities affected by the disaster.

The recent flooding, which claimed lives and destroyed property worth millions of naira, left parts of the area cut off and in urgent need of intervention.

According to Bago, construction is to begin immediately, with the goal of restoring connectivity and preventing future isolation of flood-prone areas.

To prevent similar incidents, the governor also directed relevant ministries and agencies to conduct a comprehensive survey of the state’s waterways and terrain.

He said the findings would guide a relocation plan for residents living along vulnerable coastlines.

“This government remains committed to protecting lives and property. We must work together to build safer and more resilient communities,” Bago said, encouraging the people to remain united in the face of adversity.

As part of the visit, relief materials were symbolically distributed to selected households in the affected area.

The governor also visited Rabba, where a key bridge was washed away by the flood, and reassured residents of the government’s resolve to swiftly restore vital infrastructure and support those affected.
