A 17-year-old boy has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment for stealing a cellphone by a Magistrate Court in Jos, Plateau State.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported at the “B” Division Police Station on March 29, by one Friday Wilfred the complainant.

Gokwat said the convict went to the complainant’s hotel room and stole the phone and used it as a collateral to get N20,000 loan.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravene the Plateau Penal Code Law.

The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos sentenced the minor, who pleaded guilty to theft.

Bokkos in her judgment gave the convict an option of fine of N20,000.

She also ordered him to pay a compensation of N40,000.
