Fitness and wellness entrepreneur, Maje Ayida, has publicly shared details about the personal struggles he faced following his highly publicized divorce from Nigerian media personality, Toke Makinwa.

Speaking during a testimony at a church in the United Kingdom, Ayida opened up about the emotional and mental toll the messy separation took on his life, revealing that he battled depression, paranoia, and significant career setbacks in the aftermath of the divorce.

According to him, the bitter fallout left him ashamed, unemployed, and withdrawn from society. “I was out of the loop for a whole year. I checked out of life for a year to recoup,” Ayida said, describing the deep emotional turmoil he experienced. “I realised that I was in a very dark space. I was in a hole, but I needed to get out of it.”

He recounted dealing with insomnia, heightened anxiety, and an overwhelming sense of paranoia whenever he ventured out.

“The few chances that I did get to go out, I had created a scenario in my own mind that everybody was talking about me, people were looking at me. And that would just send me back into my own home,” he added.
Despite the overwhelming challenges, Ayida said he made a conscious decision to reclaim his life. He conducted personal research on how to overcome his struggles and discovered that taking accountability was a critical first step. “I took the blame on myself. It made me feel worse at first until I began to take practical steps,” he explained.

Ayida’s marriage to Toke Makinwa, which attracted significant media attention, ended in divorce in 2017 after allegations of infidelity and irreconcilable differences.
