The suspect, 40-year-old Kingsley Ugochukwu, was arrested by operatives of the Command’s DOPS Buffalo Team in the state capital.

As part of efforts to enhance public safety across  Delta State, the  Police Command has apprehended a suspected cultist and armed robber, along with his wife, in Asaba on Wednesday.

The suspect, 40-year-old Kingsley Ugochukwu, was arrested by operatives of the Command’s DOPS Buffalo Team in the state capital.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the arrest was carried out by the team led by Commander DSP Charles Evboifo, during a raid on a local food canteen known to be a cultist hideout.

Ugochukwu was arrested on June 9, 2025, following an intelligence tip-off from a concerned citizen. On sighting the police, he allegedly attempted to discard a locally fabricated Beretta pistol, which was promptly recovered.

During the initial investigation, Ugochukwu made a suspicious phone call to his wife. This led officers to widen their probe. Further inquiries revealed that he had instructed his wife to remove and hide a single-barrel gun concealed in their bedroom.

Following this lead, the police arrested the wife. Her confession led to the recovery of the firearm in an uncompleted building.

Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to fighting crime and urged residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information.
