Famous Nollywood actress, Biola Bayo, has opened up on the reason behind the timing of her recent separation announcement from her husband, Oluseyi.

The announcement, which came four years after their marriage, sparked widespread controversy and criticism on social media, with many accusing her of choosing the occasion to expose her estranged husband to public backlash.

Addressing the backlash during the recent house presentation ceremony for fellow actress Jumoke George, Biola Bayo explained that she made the announcement to control the narrative surrounding her marriage breakdown and prevent false stories from circulating online.

“Please, I’m a human too,” she said emotionally. “The reason I shared my marital status was because I didn’t want people to tell my story for me. That’s my style. I wanted to avoid different narratives or stories that would eventually hurt me.”

Biola added that her husband was informed ahead of time about her decision to go public with the separation.

“I had already told my husband before I posted it. He was aware that I would put it out there so that others won’t be the ones to tell our story on social media,” she stated.

The actress also expressed her disappointment that, despite her intentions, the announcement was still used against her. “People were already asking me why I wasn’t posting my husband, and I knew various rumors would surface that very day. That is why I spoke about our separation. But still, it was turned against me. I know that God will reward everybody accordingly.”

Biola Bayo and Oluseyi’s marriage lasted for four years before the recent separation.
