Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday inaugurated a new council secretariat complex, a legislative chamber, and a major road project in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area—signaling a major step in the area’s post-crisis redevelopment.
The multi-storey administrative complex, named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was delivered by the council chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Olowa. It replaces the former building destroyed during the October 2020 #EndSARS protests. The new facility features state-of-the-art amenities, including an ICT centre, 24-hour solar lighting, and CCTV surveillance.
Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu described the projects as a testament to resilience and visionary leadership.
“These impactful projects underscore our commitment to inclusive development and responsive grassroots governance,” he said.
“They reflect the progress inspired by our THEMES Plus agenda and the determination of this community to rebuild and thrive.”
He added that grassroots development remains central to his administration’s vision for a Greater Lagos. “This new secretariat will restore operational efficiency and enhance staff productivity, while the legislative chamber provides a befitting workspace for local lawmakers,” he said.
The Governor also commissioned an interlocking road project named in his honour and flagged off construction for Citrus Gardens, a public-private housing scheme. He revealed plans for further road expansions in the area, including the strategic Eleranigbe Road and a bridge linking Sangotedo to the Lekki airport corridor.
“We’ve commenced the Sangotedo bridge crossing Omu Creek, and once completed, it will unlock access across this entire axis,” Sanwo-Olu told residents.
Council chairman Olowa expressed confidence that the secretariat would rejuvenate governance in the area. “This is one of the most advanced council complexes in the country, with high-speed internet and smart infrastructure to foster innovation,” he said.
He also highlighted the potential of the Citrus Gardens to stimulate local economic activity and set new standards for urban planning in Ibeju-Lekki. “With features like paved roads, security, indoor recreation, and green spaces, this estate will redefine sustainable living in our community,” he noted.
The day’s events underscored a significant leap forward for Ibeju-Lekki in infrastructure, governance, and future urban development.
