Quick Read

On the night of Friday, 13 June, 2025, armed militia men attacked Yelewata and Daudu communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

Benue continues to sink deeper under a terrible state of insecurity as over 200 people including five soldiers have again been mowed down in cold blood in two communities in the state.

By the look of things, the larger percentage of residents in the state no longer feel that Governor Alia has any solution to the continued insecurity.

Observers feel that, gradually, as Benue sinks deeper into insecurity it is checking all boxes for the declaration of a State of Emergency rule as armed militia and herdsmen move towards taking over the state capital.

In the past three months, over 1,500 people have been killed and uncountable number displaced.

The State Government seems totally unprepared to arrest the situation.

On the night of Friday, 13 June, 2025, armed militia men attacked Yelewata and Daudu communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

About 200 persons, including Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, and five soldiers were feared dead in the attack. Some victims were burnt beyond recognition in their houses.

In addition, two soldiers, civil defence officers and two policemen were abducted.

Residents of the state continue to live in fear as armed militia are almost taking over the state.

Gradually, residents are coming to the conclusion that Reverend Alia is incapable of securing the state anymore.

Some residents of the state are calling for the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while others are calling for a declaration of an Emergency Rule in Benue to bring peace to the state.
