The Kano State Police Command has declared war on thuggery, popularly known as Yan-Daba, in the state.

The command’s renewed crackdown follows recent violent clashes that have unsettled parts of the metropolis.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, June 15, by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Hussaini, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered an all-out offensive against the criminal elements. The police have directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical units to identify, locate, and neutralize all known hideouts where thugs operate across the state.

The directive was given at a high-level security summit convened by the Commissioner of Police on Saturday. At the meeting, Bakori reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy on all forms of thuggery and handed down marching orders to his commanders.

To actualise this directive, the command has launched a coordinated strategy that involves intelligence-led raids on suspected enclaves where thugs are believed to be taking refuge. The police are also strengthening their community-oriented policing efforts by engaging with local leaders and residents to gather timely feedback and practical suggestions on how to improve neighborhood safety and prevent criminal infiltration.

The command said it was also intensifying collaboration with other security agencies and critical stakeholders in the state to foster a harmonized approach to law enforcement and ensure a united front in the war against thuggery and related crimes.
