Amid escalating traffic congestion caused by a growing influx of articulated trucks, the Lagos State Government has announced the rollout of an electronic call-up (E-Call Up) system on the Lekki-Epe corridor, effective Monday, June 16, 2025.

The corridor, home to major economic installations including the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Sea Port, and several oil and gas facilities, has become a hotbed of industrial activity.

However, with only a single major exit route, the boom in truck movements has increasingly overwhelmed the road infrastructure.

Speaking during an interview on TVC News, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, revealed that the corridor currently sees between 360 and 400 trucks daily, a figure expected to balloon as full-scale operations begin at the Dangote Refinery, which could dispatch between 3,000 to 4,000 trucks per day.

“This surge underscores the urgent need for structured traffic management,” Osiyemi said. “The E-Call Up System is a proactive response to prevent total gridlock along the axis.”

Under the new system, truck operators must register online and upload their Authority to Load (ATL) documents.

Only trucks that are electronically validated will be allowed into designated truck parks, where they will wait for a call-up notification before proceeding to their assigned loading points.

According to Osiyemi, the move is intended to eliminate indiscriminate parking, streamline truck movements, enhance road safety, and preserve the structural integrity of the corridor.

He described the initiative as a critical milestone in the state’s drive to modernise traffic and logistics systems, particularly in high-growth industrial zones.

The Commissioner also called for the cooperation and compliance of all stakeholders to ensure the success of the scheme.
