Lagos NYSC eyes Agbowa completion after pausing renovation at Iyana-Ipaja Camp

Quick Read

The renovation, started by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is meant to improve the temporary camp while construction continues on a permanent site in Agbowa, Ikorodu.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has temporarily stopped renovation work at its Iyana-Ipaja Orientation Camp in Lagos.

The Lagos State NYSC Coordinator, Christina Salmwang, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that the renovation was paused so it wouldn’t affect the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation, which began on June 13.

The renovation, started by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is meant to improve the temporary camp while construction continues on a permanent site in Agbowa, Ikorodu.

Salmwang said the break in renovation is to make sure the orientation runs smoothly for the corps members. The three-week orientation helps corps members learn important skills before they are posted to their various places of primary assignment.

She also said renovation work will continue once the current group finishes their programme.

So far, 7,086 corps members (2,891 males and 4,195 females) have been registered and given accommodation. This number includes those who were moved from other states like Ekiti, Ondo, Kwara, and Osun due to limited space in Lagos.

Salmwang added that they hope the permanent camp in Agbowa will be ready soon to accommodate all corps members posted to Lagos.

She praised the Lagos State Government for its strong support, saying it shows the government is committed to developing and empowering young people.
