In a decisive operation aimed at reclaiming public spaces and stamping out criminal activity, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has launched a fresh raid across Victoria Island and its surrounding areas, dismantling multiple criminal hideouts and enforcing environmental laws.
The operation, which began around 1:00 a.m., was led by the Agency’s Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, and targeted notorious black spots identified through community intelligence and surveillance.
Hot zones swept during the raid included Maroko Sandfill, the Bonny Camp axis, and other parts of Victoria Island.
By daybreak, a total of 49 suspects—48 male and one female—had been apprehended.
Their alleged crimes range from street-level theft and hooliganism to illegal occupation of public spaces, all of which had disrupted peace and public order in the area.
Akerele reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and public infrastructure across the state.
“We will not allow criminality to fester in any part of Lagos. Anyone threatening the peace and safety of our communities will be rooted out and made to face justice. This is not a one-off raid—it’s a sustained campaign,” he declared.
He revealed that the Agency is intensifying its enforcement drive with at least three operations weekly, focusing on persistent hotspots and illegal settlements.
These strategic interventions, he noted, are designed to systematically eliminate lawlessness and environmental degradation.
All 49 suspects have since been charged to court in line with the laws of Lagos State.
The Taskforce reiterated its unwavering resolve to ensure Lagos remains a secure, clean, and liveable city for all.
