African champion Oluwatimilehin Doko to light up Emmanuel Egbele Annual Scrabble Tournament

One of the greatest scrabble player to emerge from the continent of Africa, Oluwatimilehin Doko has confirmed his participation in the fifth edition of the Emmanuel Egbele Annual Scrabble Tournament (EEAST).

Fresh from minning gold at the just concluded National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged Gateway Games 2024 in the colours of Team Ogun, Oluwatimilehin Doko, the Continental Champion on Tuesday, told journalists in Lagos that he is ready to take to the board for the two-day scrabble jamming session with the biggest heavyweights in the business.

The Organizers of Emmanuel Egbele Annual Scrabble Championship have set aside over five million naira as prize money pool, with seven hundred thousand naira as the main attraction in the Masters event of the competition.

PM News understands that, three categories, Masters tagged Elites, the Opens called the Challengers and the Veterans named the Sages will be competed for at the two-day, 18 games per category tournament.

To compete in the Masters category, a player must have at least 1300 ratings points, while the Challengers are players with 0 to 1299 ratings points and the Veterans event has no cut off mark.

Thirty thousand naira is the registration fee for the Elites, twenty thousand for Challengers and twenty-five thousand naira for Sages as registration fee for the Nigeria Scrabble Federation and PANASA rated tournament. First of July is the deadline for registration.

The 2025 Emmanuel Egbele Annual Scrabble Tournament (EEAST) is scheduled to hold at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos on the 5th and 6th of July.
