Amid mounting tensions in the Middle East, China has successfully evacuated nearly 800 of its citizens from Iran, with over a thousand more currently being processed for evacuation, according to the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to CNN, Foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun disclosed that, as of Wednesday, a total of 791 Chinese nationals had been moved from Iran to designated safe areas.

The large-scale operation, he said, is being executed under the coordination of Chinese embassies and consulates in Iran, in collaboration with neighbouring countries.

“With the support of nations such as Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, Chinese citizens are being assisted at border crossings and guided through safe transit back to China,” Guo said during a press briefing.

He added that some Chinese nationals have also been safely relocated from Israel in recent days.
