Tensions between Israel and Iran have escalated sharply following a direct threat issued by Israel’s Defence Minister against Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a bold and unprecedented statement, the Israeli minister accused Khamenei of masterminding attacks on Israel through various proxy groups and declared that eliminating him is now seen as a necessary step in Israel’s defensive strategy.
This development follows a recent missile strike by Iran on the Israeli city of Beersheba.
The attack reportedly damaged the Soroka Medical Center, escalating fears of a full-blown war.
The Israeli Defence Minister, speaking to journalists, emphasized that Khamenei has for years encouraged the destruction of Israel and is now actively directing military aggression through allied militant organizations.
“A man like Khamenei has always aimed at wiping Israel off the map using his agents. He has crossed the line, and the time has come to stop him permanently.
His elimination is no longer just an idea—it is part of our broader security campaign,” the minister said, according to reports from Al Jazeera.
In response to Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military installations over the past few days, Iran launched a series of retaliatory attacks, including missiles and drones.
These strikes have deepened regional fears, with the international community watching closely as both nations edge closer to a wider confrontation.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also addressed the Iranian public in a televised message.
He expressed hope that the ongoing military campaign might open a pathway for the Iranian people to attain political and personal freedoms long suppressed by their leadership.
On the global front, former U.S. President Donald Trump made his position known through a social media post, hinting at possible U.S. action.
“We are not going to take Khamenei out—not yet. But our patience is wearing thin,” Trump wrote, adding to the already tense atmosphere.
Ayatollah Khamenei, for his part, has warned the United States and its allies that any military strike on Iranian territory would lead to “serious and irreparable consequences,” reinforcing Iran’s resolve to defend its sovereignty.
Humanitarian concerns are also growing. Reports indicate that over 240 people have been killed in Israeli strikes on Iran, including at least 70 women and children. Iranian attacks on Israel have resulted in at least 24 deaths.
The rising civilian toll on both sides has drawn criticism from international human rights organizations, who are calling for immediate de-escalation and peace talks.
The situation remains volatile, with military actions from both countries threatening to plunge the Middle East into a broader and more devastating conflict. International leaders are urging restraint and calling for dialogue to prevent further loss of life.
