Two Britons jailed 8 years for importation of cannabis into Nigeria

A Federal high court sitting in Lagos has sentenced a Nigerian- born British citizen, Oyedipe Andrew Adejuwon and another Briton said to be his collaborator, Mhizha Jordan Alexander Tatendra to a total of eight years imprisonment for importation of Cannabis Sativa into Nigeria.

In the charges filed in court, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, alleged that Tatendra and Adejuwon, in May 2025 conspired with some other persons unknown to import 51.10Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa from the United Arab Emirates to Nigeria.

NDLEA said the offence is contrary to and punishable under section 14 (b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

When the amended charges were read to them, the the two defendants pleaded guilty.

Thereafter, the facts of the case was reviewed by the NDLEA prosecutor.

Consequently the presiding Judge, Justice Musa Kakaki after convicting the defendants sentenced them to two years imprisonment each on each of the two counts.

However, the term of the improvement are to run concurrently from 14th May, 2025 when they were arrested.

Count 1

That you Mhizha Jordan Alexander Tatendra and Oyedipe Andrew Adejuwon, both Male, Adults, British Citizens on or about the 14th May 2025 conspired with some other persons unknown to Import 51.10Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, a Narcotic Drug similar to Cocaine, LSD, Heroin and you thereby committed an act which is an offence contrary to and punishable under section 14 (b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of
Nigeria, 2004.

Count 2

That you Oyedipe Andrew Adejuwon Male, Adult British Citizen, on or about the 14th May 2025 procured one Mhizha Jordan Alexander Tatendra Male, Adult, British Citizen to Import 51.10Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, a Narcotic Drug similar to Cocaine, LSD, Heroin and you thereby committed an act which is an offence contrary to section 21 (2) (d) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under section
11(a) of the said Act.

Count 3 :

That you Mhizha Jordan Alexander Tatendra Male, Adult British Citizen, on or about the 14th May 2025 during the inward clearance of passengers aboard Emirates Airlines flight from United Arab Emirates to Lagos at the E-Arrival Hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Ikeja-Lagos without lawful authority imported 51.10Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, a Narcotic Drug similar to Cocaine, LSD, Heroin and you thereby committed an act which is an offence contrary to and punishable under section 11 (a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
