Troops of the 33 Artillery Brigade, operating under Operation Lafiyan Jama’a, have rescued a kidnapped victim and neutralised a suspected kidnapper during a successful clearance operation in Mbulu community, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Military sources disclosed that the operation was launched following a distress call received at about 6:40 p.m. on June 19, based on credible intelligence about a kidnapping syndicate active in the area.

According to the sources, one of the suspects was initially intercepted at a local market while attempting to purchase food supplies for the criminal gang.

According to Zagazola Makama, upon preliminary interrogation, the suspect led troops to the gang’s hideout.

However, the operation quickly escalated when the troops came under heavy fire upon arrival at the location.

During the operation, one kidnapped victim was rescued. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle and a locally made Dane gun, believed to be in the possession of the gang.

Military authorities confirmed that the rescued victim is currently undergoing debriefing and medical checks and will soon be reunited with their family.

Meanwhile, troops have launched a manhunt to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
