The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will lead a grand reception organised to officially receive Akwa Ibom governor, Umo Uno and other officials of government into its fold in Uyo, the state capital on Saturday.
Akwa Ibom APC chieftain, Sen. Ita Enang, said this in statement released on Friday in Uyo, the state capital.
Enang further said that the party was fully prepared to receive the Vice President, the party’s National Chairman, and governors elected on the party’s platform.
Governor Eno had on June 6 officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to APC.
Enang, a former Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly and Niger Delta Affairs, said that the governor’s decision had aligned Akwa Ibom to the centre.
He assured the governor and his supporters that the APC would receive them with open arms, and keep to every agreement that had been reached.
“As progressives, we shall work with the governor and his supporters to ensure that they fit into the party without hitches.
“We will also work with them to align programmes of the state government with the ideals and manifesto of the party,” he said.
Meanwhile, Baba Azare, the Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, has also assured of adequate security during the grand reception).
Azare told journalists on Thursday that police personnel would be fully mobilised for the Saturday’s event.
He further said that the command would collaborate with sister security agencies to ensure adequate protection of residents and visitors coming into the state to attend the reception.
“We will have a lot of visitors coming into the state for the reception, the command is fully prepared. We are working with other security agencies to provide adequate security.
“Criminal elements are warned, we are fully prepared. Anyone caught indulging in criminal activities will be dealt with,” he said.
Eno who was elected governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, defected to the ruling APC.
