Police have confirmed that more than 10 people were killed by a suicide bomber at local food joint in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday.

However, some other reports put the number of people killed in the suicide attack as high as 24.

The spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, said the suicide bomber attacked a gathering of people at the food joint around 10 pm on Friday night.

He, however said details about the incident available to the police are still scanty.

“Yesterday, around 22:00 in Konduga, just unfortunately, somebody invaded a gathering with a bomb, killing over 10 persons,” he said.

“We have deployed our EOD experts, together with the military and other security agencies, to the town.

“Investigation is ongoing to ascertain what actually or really happened. The detail is still scanty.”

Popular counter insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, said on his platform that 24 people were killed while many others were injured in the suicide attack.

He quoted police sources as confirming that explosion resulted in the death of 24 people, both male and female, while an unspecified number of others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

He added that the body of the suicide bomber was torn apart by the blast, with only the head recovered.

“Following the incident, a joint team comprising Military and Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) units, Tactical Teams, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters visited the scene.

“The area was cordoned off and thoroughly searched for other potential explosive devices, but none were found. Normalcy has since been restored to the area.

Boko Haram had used bomb attack as part of its campaign of insurgency in Borno State and other parts of the North East.

However, the frequency of such attacks has reduced over the years until recent resurgence of insurgency in Borno State with attacks on military positions by terrorists.
