Police recover body of girl killed, buried by boyfriend in Edo

Police operatives on Friday exhumed the remains of 21-year-old girl, Osato Edogiaweria, allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, Joshua Osaigbovo, from a shallow grave in Iyanomon community, Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State.

A statement by the Command’s Spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, disclosed that the deceased was reported missing by her mother, Mrs Ojo, at Aduwawa Police Division, on April 27, 2025.

Painstaking investigation and technical intelligence led to the arrest of the suspect at Iyanomon, a surbub community in Benin City.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having invited the said Osato Festus (now deceased) to his residence on 27th April, 2025 and in the course of their stay, had an altercation that led to a fight where the deceased fell, hit her head on the ground and died.

“He further confessed that he took the dead body of the lady in a wheel barrow to a bush nearby, dug and buried her in a shallow grave a few meters away from his residence,” Yamu said.

The Police Spokesman disclosed that on Friday, June 20, 2025, the suspect led Operatives to the shallow grave at Iyanomon community where the remains of the girl was exhumed following all necessary procedures.

He added that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
