Famous Nigerian songstress, Tiwa Savage, has opened up about how pregnancy impacted her vocal performance while recording her critically acclaimed album, R.E.D.

Speaking on Afrobeats Intelligence, Savage shared that the journey to completing the album was emotionally and physically draining, as she struggled with vocal limitations caused by pregnancy.

“I was pregnant when I recorded ‘R.E.D’. I would be in the studio crying with my big belly. It was a struggle to record the album,” she said.

The award-winning singer revealed that she had to adjust her music to fit her changing vocal range. “I changed the key of some of the songs in the album because being pregnant affected how I could hit some notes.”

Savage also reflected on her time at Mavin Records, led by Don Jazzy. She recalled being the first female artiste at the label to experience pregnancy and how the team supported her during those challenging times.

“I was the first person to have a baby in Mavin. So whenever they noticed my energy going down, Jazzy would tell them to get me my cravings, which were eggs and bread,” she recounted with a smile.

Tiwa Savage signed with Mavin Records in 2012 and remained with the label until 2019 when she moved on to join Universal Music Group.
