Iran says it has carried out the execution of a man convicted of collaborating with Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad.
The individual, identified as Mohammadamin Shayesteh, was accused of leading a cyber-team affiliated with Mossad and was sentenced to death for espionage and acting against Iran’s national security.
Shayesteh, it was learnt, was arrested in late 2023 and underwent judicial procedures that led to his execution, although the exact date and location were not specified.
Iran frequently accuses individuals of spying for foreign powers, particularly Israel, and often conducts such cases with limited transparency.
This particular execution occurred amidst heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, with recent U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities further escalating the situation.
This execution is part of a broader pattern of Iran cracking down on perceived espionage, reflecting the country’s ongoing security concerns and strained relations with Israel and the West.
