The Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, has sealed off two prominent beach resorts—Timeless Beach and Iceland Beach.
The beaches were sealed alongside 180 other buildings in the Okun-Ajah area of Eti-Osa, for encroaching on state-owned land and failing to heed official summons.
The enforcement operation, led by the Commissioner for the Ministry, Dayo Bush Alebiosu, was carried out in the early hours of the day.
According to Alebiosu, the action became necessary after repeated warnings and summons were ignored by the affected property owners.
“It is disappointing that despite several notices, these individuals chose to defy government directives. This blatant disregard for property laws and due process cannot be allowed to continue,” the Commissioner said.
He disclosed that more than 40 previous offenders had regularised their status after complying with legal requirements and were subsequently issued E-Survey documents.
However, Alebiosu said a number of others persisted in erecting illegal structures in defiance of the law.
“The State Government has engaged these parties over time. While some complied, others have remained adamant and continue to flout the rules. Their actions undermine the integrity of our land management systems,” Alebiosu added.
“Over 20 suspected defaulters were arrested in rhe course of the enforcement and they will be made to face the full wrath of the law”. Alebiosu added.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public land and promoting sustainable development across Lagos waterfront communities.
