Two members of the House of Representatives, formerly of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), have officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers—Rep. Peter Akpanke, who represents Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwarra Federal Constituency of Cross River State, and Prof. Paul Nnamchi, representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency of Enugu State—announced their defections during Tuesday’s plenary session.

In separate letters addressed to the House and read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, the lawmakers attributed their decision to ongoing internal crises within their former parties.

They also cited the need to align with the policies and programmes of the Federal Government under the APC-led administration.

Following the announcement, Speaker Abbas welcomed the defectors into the fold of the APC and congratulated them on their decision.

Their defection further strengthens the numerical advantage of the APC in the lower chamber, as political realignments continue to reshape the legislative landscape.
