The Kogi State Police Command has successfully foiled two kidnapping attempts on 23 passengers along the Lokoja/Kabba Road.

According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer,  William Aya, the operation was part of the command’s sustained efforts to rid the state of crime and criminality.

Aya said, on June 23, 2025, operatives attached to Obajana Division responded to a distress call after armed hoodlums attacked passengers on the Obajana-Oshokoshoko Road.

He said the police engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, forcing them to abandon their victims and flee. He stated that 23 passengers were rescued, but six sustained injuries, while one later died while receiving treatment.

In a related incident on June 21, 2025, operatives attached to Ayingba Division arrested two suspects, Umaru Jibril and Lukman Umaru, for possession of a locally made pistol, live cartridges, and suspected Indian hemp.

The state Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, reassured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring safety and security in the state.

He noted that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation
