On Friday, June 27, 2025, Dr. Amina Yamgnane—a leading figure in obstetrics and maternal health—will deliver a powerful address to health professionals and the general public at Alliance Française de Lagos.

According to the invite sent to PM News, Dr. Yamgnane’s talk will center on the urgent need to radically rethink the way care is provided to women before, during, and after childbirth.

Dr. Yamgnane, a French-Togolese obstetrician-gynecologist, specializes in fetal medicine and high-risk pregnancies.

With over 15 years of experience in premier hospitals across Europe, she brings both clinical excellence and deep empathy to her work.

She currently heads the Maternity Department at the American Hospital of Paris and leads France’s national working group on Respectful Maternity Care under the College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

This event marks her first return to the African continent in several years—a personal and professional homecoming driven by her desire to reconnect, listen, and learn from the lived realities of women and caregivers on the ground.

Dr. Yamgnane began her medical journey as Chief Resident at Cliniques Saint-Luc at Université de Louvain in Belgium. She later held positions at the renowned Necker Hospital in Paris before assuming her current role at the American Hospital. In 2016, she founded La Clinique des Femmes in Paris, a groundbreaking center offering trauma-informed, human-centered care for women.

The conference, titled “Rethinking Maternity Care,” will convene doctors, midwives, nurses, hospital administrators, medical educators, and healthcare investors to explore a pressing question: How do we deliver care that is not only clinically sound, but also respectful, dignified, and rooted in women’s lived experiences?

In a time when maternity care can often become overly technical, impersonal, or even harmful, this gathering offers a collective moment to pause, reflect, and envision new standards.

From the delivery room to the policymaking table, the event calls on all those shaping maternal health to build a model of care that listens to women, honors their choices, and supports the professionals who serve them.

The talk begins at 6:00 PM at Alliance Française, Ikoyi, Lagos, and admission is free.

Speaking on the event, Dr. Yamgnane said: “This is more than a talk. It’s an invitation to transform.”
