Nollywood actress and producer, Debbie Shokoya, has opened up about a heartbreaking experience of betrayal by close friends who allegedly spread rumours that her husband used “jazz” (charms) to manipulate her.
Speaking on the Iriri Podcast hosted by Bimpe Akintunde, Debbie shared how people she once called friends accused her husband of hypnotising her, a claim she described as deeply painful. She revealed that these malicious rumours came from individuals she trusted, making their betrayal even harder to bear.
“Those I called my people… the same ones who said I was hypnotised by my husband—were my friends. People I trusted. But today, I realise I have no one left. And you know what? I surrender,” she said.

“My husband is my best friend. My daughter, my family, and my husband’s family—they are all I need,” she added.
Debbie credited her growth to her faith in God, saying she now believes that cutting ties with toxic people was necessary for her peace and progress.
“Looking back now, I see clearly—God took those people out of my life for a reason. If they were still here, maybe my life wouldn’t have meaning. Maybe they would’ve caused setbacks… maybe they would’ve sent me packing from my marriage,” she said.
