In a commanding display at the FIFA Club World Cup round of 16, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured a decisive 4-0 win over Inter Miami, advancing confidently to the quarter-finals in the tournament.
The match, attended by 65,574 fans, showcased PSG’s attacking prowess and defensive solidity, leaving Inter Miami struggling to keep pace.
PSG set the tone early, with Joao Neves opening the scoring in the 6th minute. A well-executed free kick from Vitinha found Neves unmarked, who headed the ball into the centre of the goal from close range.
PSG‘s relentless pressure continued, and in the 39th minute, Fabian Ruiz set up Neves again for a simple tap-in, doubling the lead to 2-0.
Just before halftime, disaster struck for Inter Miami as Tomas Aviles inadvertently deflected a shot into his own net in the 44th minute, making it 3-0.
The final blow came in stoppage time of the first half when Achraf Hakimi capitalized on a rebound to slot the ball into an unguarded net, sealing the 4-0 scoreline.
The second half saw PSG maintain control, with Gianluigi Donnarumma making crucial saves, including a diving stop to deny Lionel Messi’s header in the 80th minute.
Inter Miami, despite efforts from Messi and Luis Suarez, struggled to penetrate PSG’s defense, with their attacks often thwarted by timely interceptions and blocks.
PSG’s Joao Neves was the standout, scoring twice and dictating play in midfield. Achraf Hakimi and Bradley Barcola consistently threatened Inter Miami’s defence, with Barcola’s pace causing problems throughout.
Gianluigi Donnarumma earned his clean sheet with several key saves, notably against Messi and Tadeo Allende.
For Inter Miami, Lionel Messi showed flashes of brilliance but was stifled by PSG’s organized defence. Luis Suarez and Tadeo Allende created chances but lacked the finishing touch, while goalkeeper Oscar Ustari made several saves to prevent an even heavier defeat.
