Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered a commanding performance, defeating Ghana 3-1 in their final friendly match before the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Sunday.

Played with intensity and flair, the match showcased Nigeria’s attacking prowess and defensive resilience, setting a strong tone for their upcoming campaign.

The Super Falcons asserted dominance early in the first half. In the 34th minute, Chiwendu Ihezuo broke the deadlock, capitalizing on a well-worked move to put Nigeria 1-0 up.

Ten minutes later, Asisat Oshoala doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 44th minute, calmly slotting the ball home to send Nigeria into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

The second half saw Nigeria pick up where they left off. Just five minutes after the restart, captain Rasheedat Ajibade extended the lead to 3-0 with a composed finish in the 50th minute, showcasing her leadership and clinical edge.

Ghana managed a late consolation goal in the 88th minute, but it was too little, too late to challenge Nigeria’s control.

Ihezuo set the tone with her early goal, demonstrating her growing importance to the squad. Asisat Oshoala, a talismanic figure, was clinical from the spot and a constant threat.

Ajibade led by example, combining defensive work rate with a decisive goal. The Super Falcons’ backline was resolute, limiting Ghana’s chances until the late consolation.

This victory serves as a strong statement of intent for the Super Falcons as they head into WAFCON 2024.

With a potent attack led by Oshoala and Ajibade, and a solid defensive unit, Nigeria looks poised to challenge for the title.
