Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has opened up about her first foray into acting, describing it as a transformative experience that deepened her respect for actors.

The singer, best known for her music hits, stars in Children of Blood and Bone, an upcoming American fantasy film adapted from the bestselling novel by Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi.

The movie is slated for release by Paramount Pictures on January 15, 2027.

In an interview with CBS, Ayra Starr said the acting experience demanded a level of discipline that was new to her, especially in terms of punctuality and on-set conduct.

“It [Children of Blood and Bone] is my first movie ever. I’m used to being a singer and diva on set, but this one with the movie is like—it’s not about you. You’ve to be on set on time,” she shared. “So, it made me get used to military time and working hard. I respect actors so much more now. Their stamina is impeccable.”

Starr revealed that acting has always been a passion of hers, even though she had been too shy to pursue it seriously before now.

“This is the first time in my life that I’ve been on camera and I’m not singing. It was amazing. I learned so much from everyone, not just the greats,” she added.

Children of Blood and Bone is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and features an all-star cast including Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Thuso Mbe.
