Kwara Governor showers N5m, land gifts on Federation Cup champions

Quick Read

This marks Kwara State’s first major football silverware and only the second time a team from the state has reached the FA Cup final since Alyufsalam Rocks lost to Enugu Rangers in 1976, 49 years ago

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has announced a reward of five million naira and a plot of land for each player and official of Kwara United Football Club following their victory in the 2025 President Federation Cup.

Kwara United clinched the title after defeating Abakaliki FC 4-3 on penalties at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos last weekend. The match ended goalless after regulation time, forcing a penalty shootout that secured the Harmony Boys their historic win.

During an elaborate reception at the Government House in Ilorin on Monday, Governor Abdulrazaq praised the team for ending the state’s trophy drought and making history with their achievement.

“This victory has etched your names in gold. You have brought honour to Kwara State, and you will forever be remembered for this noble gesture,” he said.

This marks Kwara State’s first major football silverware and only the second time a team from the state has reached the FA Cup final since Alyufsalam Rocks lost to Enugu Rangers in 1976, 49 years ago.

With the win, Kwara United will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup alongside Abia Warriors, who finished third in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
