Veteran Nollywood actor, Tom Njemanze, has made a public appeal for financial assistance as he battles prostate cancer.

In a viral video shared on Tuesday, the ailing actor, who is currently undergoing treatment at a medical facility, called on Nigerians and fans for urgent support to help fund his surgery.

Filmmaker Stanley Ontop, who posted the video on Instagram, confirmed that Njemanze had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and stressed the urgency of the situation.

“Hello guys, one of our Nollywood legends is sick and needs urgent surgery,” he said. “Sir Tom Njemanze has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and he needs your support to undergo surgery. Nothing is too small, fams. Help our legend live again.”

Njemanze is a well-known face in the Nigerian film industry, with memorable roles in classics such as Issakaba, Tokunboh, Atosa, Pounds and Dollars, Osuofia in London, Igbotic Love, and Brain Box.

His plea comes just four months after fellow veteran actor John Amaefule also called for help while battling partial stroke and cancer — a troubling trend that highlights the health and financial struggles faced by many Nollywood veterans.

This appeal follows the recent death of popular filmmaker Kayode Peters in Canada, deepening the sense of urgency around healthcare support for actors in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
