The former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, along with some state chairmen of the party, have rejected former Senate President David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Minister Rauf Aregbesola for trying to take over the party.
They said Atiku made a deal with Ralph Nwosu, the former national chairman of ADC, whose tenure ended in 2022. They explained that there are still unresolved court cases about the party’s leadership and that Atiku and others cannot build something on nothing.
According to Kachikwu, Atiku and his group have bought a “bad market” because the leadership issue is still in court. He said ADC has no space for old politicians leaving PDP and other parties.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Kachikwu said it was funny that these politicians think they can hijack a party without following its constitution. He asked important questions, such as:
“Can you build something on nothing? Can you shave a man’s hair in his absence? Can you enter a man’s house through the back door and call yourself the landlord?”
He criticised them for being part of Nigeria’s past problems, saying:
“These old men have bought a bad market. Nigerians are tired of their generation that has ruled for decades without real progress. They say they want to rescue Nigeria, but they are the ones who caused its problems. They think power is their birthright.”
Kachikwu added that Nigerians want new leaders with fresh ideas, not the same old faces. He said:
“Nigerians are tired of you. We want a country that works for everyone, not divided by tribe and religion. We want fairness, inclusiveness, and leaders who care.”
He advised those planning to join ADC to follow the right process. He said:
“If you want to join ADC, come through the front door. We are decent people who not only oppose but also propose solutions, something your group does not understand. I suspect you will soon be looking for another party. As you do, we wish you Bon Voyage.”
