Man’s attempt to cycle from Nigeria to USA breaks the internet

A young Nigerian man identified as Emmiwuks has reportedly embarked on a courageous journey to the United States, travelling solely on bicycle.

The daring attempt has captured the attention of social media users, with many expressing a mixture of astonishment and concern.

The story first emerged after a video was posted by social media user @dammiedammie35 on platform X (formerly Twitter).

The footage shows the unidentified cyclist riding along a Nigerian road, confidently pedalling with a bicycle heavily loaded with personal belongings, food supplies, and essential travel items strapped to it.

Notably, a small United States flag is attached to his bike, symbolising his final destination.

Although details about his identity, exact departure point, and planned route remain unclear, the man’s bold move has generated widespread reactions online.

Some users have praised his bravery and adventurous spirit, while others raised questions about the practicality and feasibility of such a journey.

It’s not the first time that he would be embarking on such adventure, he rode on his bicycle from Benue states to Lagos few years back just to see hip hop artiste, David Adeleke known on stage as Davido.

One user, @BadpreneurJiggy, jokingly commented, “Abeg send your plug number, I need strong Igbo way go make me sef vex say I wan use Nylon fly enter US!” suggesting that the journey was so unrealistic it might have been induced by strong substances.

Another user, @deolar_zeal, wrote, “Lmao shey America come be UK wey no too really far?” questioning whether he realised the distance between Nigeria and the United States compared to European countries.

Similarly, @mattewkola expressed scepticism, saying, “Make una dey calm down oooooo which kine lie be this, this one no fit cotonue before he drop bicycle now,” implying that he would not even reach the border town of Cotonou before abandoning his mission.

Others raised logistical concerns. @World_chels asked, “Will he also ride the bicycle through the Atlantic ocean? And other terrains that might be even unwalkable?” highlighting the geographical impossibility of cycling across oceans without mechanical aid.

Another user, @zimachoppers, wondered if this was a strategy for record-breaking or simply a tactic to japa (escape Nigeria). “Abeg ooo is this also Guinness books of record game? Abi japa format?? Koye mi ni oo,” he posted.

Some users also linked the cyclist to previous viral stories. @andy_cmo wrote, “It’s EmmyWuks, the same guy that rides the last time to meet Davido from Benue to Lagos,” referencing a popular young man known for cycling long distances to meet celebrities.

At the time of this report, there has been no official statement regarding his travel plans, safety arrangements, or whether he intends to continue the journey beyond Nigeria’s borders by alternate means such as air or sea travel.

Observers note that while such feats of endurance attract social media attention, they also raise safety and mental health concerns if not properly planned. However, his courage has sparked discussions about Nigerians’ growing desire for adventure, migration, and global connection despite daunting obstacles.
