A significant number of Boko Haram fighters and their family members have surrendered to troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Sector 2 in the Lake Chad region.

The surrender followed intensified military operations in the region.
The terrorists confessed to participating in various terrorist acts along the Bakatolerom, Barkalam, Litri, and Kaiga Ngbouboun axis of Lake Chad. Ten assorted weapons were recovered from the terrorists during the operation.
The Commander of Sector 2/Operation Lake Chad, Maj.-Gen. Moussa Haussa, commended the troops for their commitment to the fight against terrorism. He assured that the surrendered terrorists would be treated humanely and participate in the MNJTF’s deradicalisation programme.
The Governor of the Region of Lake Chad, Brig.-Gen. Saleh Haggar Tidjani, welcomed the surrendered terrorists and promised to provide them with a skill acquisition programme to facilitate their reintegration into society.
